Picking Out Your Postlude Music
This Is The Seventh Day Of Our Wedding Song Challenge! Today we’re going to find music you’ll love for the postlude portion of your ceremony. Let's get started!
Each day of this challenge, I'll be helping you fill your playlist with every song you’ll need for your wedding. Sometimes all it takes is just one song to bring back a thousand memories. Let’s start by setting the scene for the postlude portion of your ceremony. At this point, your beautiful ceremony has ended, and you (and your wedding party) have all made your way back down the aisle.
While the recessional portion of your ceremony is all about your exit, the postlude is all about your guests exit. And during this time, your guests will happily remain seated until they’re dismissed, but continuing to play music while they wait will create an even more relaxing atmosphere and provide a little entertainment until they make their way out.
It’s time to pick out the perfect postlude music. When choosing your music, there are a few things to think about:
How do you want your guests to feel as they wait to exit your ceremony, or what mood do you want to set?
Do you want to play instrumental music, or songs with lyrics?
If you choose to play instrumental music, what is your favorite instrument?
Who are your favorite bands and are there any good instrumental versions of their songs you could use?
Also, since your postlude music is played just after your upbeat recessional music, you could either; a) continue the high energy vibes with more upbeat music, or b) bring the energy down a bit with more relaxing, peaceful music.
And, last but not least, be sure to choose enough songs to cover the amount of time it will take your guests to leave the ceremony. If you’re planning on ending your ceremony with a receiving line (whether your guests line up to congratulate you, or you come back to greet them where they sit) I would recommend choosing 4-5 songs (depending on how many guests are in attendance.) But, if you’re planning on having them dismissed all at once with no receiving line, 1-2 songs should be plenty.
Answering these questions will give you a clear idea of exactly what kind of music you’re looking for, and how many songs you’ll need. In this case, too many songs are better than not enough.
